It’s not just another reunion – it’s a WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會 in Hong Kong!
Many of us were born in ~1954. Yes, 人生七十古來稀 may no longer be applicable. But what is relevant is that we will gather in person to celebrate our coming to age (or seniority), and to launch our 70 as our new 50!
In February, our class has signed up 48 guests for the WYK Centenary Gala Dinner on Dec 20, which include spouses plus 4 classmates from Vancouver and 4 from San Francisco Bay Area (awaiting classmates in other regions). The Centenary Gala Dinner is the only culminate event. We expect more will join us once you see our entire program and more definitive schedule. Please fill in and return the attached questionnaire to let us know all the activities that you would like to attend.
Now the drum-roll, here is our WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會:
- Sunday, Dec 15 – We will kick off with a WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會 Dinner. There will be no formal program, no zoom calls, AV presentations or invited guests. No dress code. Spouses are welcome. It’s strictly a group 奔七celebration party! Just don’t get too wild and of course, drink responsibly! Steven Tsai and Stephen Lee are sorting out a suitable venue for us. More details to come.
- Monday, Dec 16 – Wednesday, Dec 18 – We will have a Side Trip to China, 3 days/2 nights, departing on Monday morning and returning on Wednesday evening via High Speed Rail. Based on the survey we conducted earlier, our 1st choice is 湖南長沙, and 2nd choice is 大灣區. David Fung and Paul Lai are sorting out with travel agent/agency to detail out our trip. But there are rumors that Stephen Lee may have another location of great value for us to consider (he always has great ideas and leads). More details to come.
- Wednesday, Dec 18 – Friday, Dec 20 – Coincidentally (or hearing about the WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會), the Wah Yan International Conference (WYIC) 2024 Organising Committee and WYKPSA have scheduled this year event at this time. The Conference will start with a Welcome Reception on Thursday late afternoon/early evening, and finish on Friday prior to the WYK Centenary Gala Dinner. Please note that if you are planning to go on the Side Trip and attend the WYIC, you may miss the WYIC Welcome Reception. The conference and enrollment details are included in the attached invitation.
- Thursday, Dec 19 – We will have separate and smaller gatherings with our different interest group: Ping Pong, Hiking and Mahjong, etc. Fuk Gor is organizing with the groups. More details to come.
- Friday, Dec 20 – The Centenary Gala Dinner is not coincidental. We anticipated that WYK will kick off its centenary celebrations in 2024 when we were planning for our 50th anniversary reunion in 2022. Because of the pandemic, we did not have as great of a turnout for our 50th anniversary reunion. But we knew that we were going to somehow make it up in 2024 (we asked the school to plan some events before Xmas 2024)! Guess what, we are doing it. It’s no longer just a reunion, it’s going to be a WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會, and over 1,800 Wahyanites, friends and families will join our celebrations on Dec 20! Since the enrollment started in Feb 2024, the Centenary Gala Dinner has met with tremendous enthusiasm. In late April, the school and the Organizing Committee announced that the venue would be changed to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC). Except the venue, other details (date, time) remain unchanged. For those who missed the previous enrollments, we were told that there are still about 20 tables available (at the same ticket price: HKD1,500 per pax, HKD18,000 per table). The enrollment form is attached. Please inform Paul Lai after your enrollment is confirmed. We may be able to request new attendees be seated in table(s) closed with the rest of us.
人生七十古來稀 – If you have not decided or are still on the fence, please make plans to join us. It’s not just another reunion – it’s a WYK1972 Rejuvenation 奔七大會.
And to quote our ever-charming Mike Chu’s famous line – 不在乎天長地久，只在乎曾經 “再聚”。
